The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality continues to support farmers as part of local development projects. The pistachio project, which began four years ago in the Küçükköy neighborhood of Korkuteli district, has been successfully completed, and the first harvest has been made. This pistachio, adapted to the Antalya climate, is referred to as "Toros fıstığı."
First Harvest Gift
The first products of the project were presented as a gift by Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Muhittin Böcek to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel. Mayor Böcek emphasized the importance of the project, stating, "We are promoting sustainable agriculture with alternative products that can provide solutions for drought-stricken areas."
Solutions for Areas with Limited Water Resources
Seda Özel, Head of Agricultural Services Department of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, stated, "Antalya's water resources are insufficient for agricultural production." Therefore, it is believed that the drought-resistant pistachio will make a significant contribution to the regional economy.
Support and Success from Farmers
Caner Akansel, a farmer who planted Toros pistachios for the first time thanks to the project, noted that they achieved successful results and set an example for other farmers. Akansel said, "We aim to achieve greater yields with these saplings to contribute to the regional economy."
This project enables farmers in the area to engage in sustainable agriculture by providing water savings.
