In Çanakkale, the Bayramiç Dam, which is fed by the Kaz Mountains, known in mythology as 'Bin Pınarlı İda' due to its numerous water sources, and has a water capacity of 96 million 500 thousand cubic meters, reached a 100% fullness rate. The water level in the Bayramiç Dam, which irrigates an area of 250 thousand hectares, had dropped to as low as 8% about 4 months ago due to drought, and there were discussions about shutting down agricultural irrigation if sufficient rainfall did not occur. However, the water level in the Bayramiç Dam has now reached 100%.
The 100% fullness rate of the Bayramiç Dam, which irrigates an area of 250 thousand hectares, brought smiles to the producers' faces.
Ufuk Ünver, the President of the Çanakkale Chamber of Agriculture, stated, "The Bayramiç Dam irrigates an area of 250 thousand hectares. Various crops such as fruits, vegetables, grains, rice, and corn are cultivated using water from the Bayramiç Dam. Approximately 20 thousand hectares of rice, 20 thousand hectares of seed corn, and at least 10 thousand hectares of silage corn are irrigated. Irrigation can reach up to 160 thousand hectares in the Bayramiç Dam area. This year, producers will not experience water shortages. In fact, we demand an increase in water. Because the year has been dry, we want to have some water left for the next year. We will use it sparingly. We do not want it to be used excessively just because there is plenty of water. Because of climate change, we want precautions to prevent future hardships."
