Dairy Collection Centers are becoming more widespread

In the earthquake-prone region of Malatya, Dairy Collection Centers, established to process milk collected from producers and contribute to the economy, are becoming more widespread. The Malatya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MTB), in collaboration with the Firat Development Agency (FKA), initiated these centers to assess and utilize the dairy assets in the city for economic gain. In 2019, within the framework of a feasibility support project, the cold chain and milk collection centers in Malatya were approved by the Eastern Anatolia Project (DAP), resulting in significant advantages for milk producers. Between February 11, 2023, and March 31, 2024, 3,800 tons of milk were collected and processed at the facility established in Yeşilyurt district. Approximately 40,972,000 TL worth of added value was generated for the city's economy within one year from the processed products.

Collecting 4.5 to 5 tons of milk daily

Aziz Kurtoğlu, the President of the Malatya Milk Producers Union, shared information about the facility in Yeşilyurt, stating that 4.5 to 5 tons of milk are collected daily at seven different points.

"The project prevents animal slaughter as well"

Ramazan Özcan, the President of the Malatya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MTB), emphasized the significant contribution of the project to the Malatya economy and the livestock sector. He said, "The foundation of the facility was laid in 2014 and completed in 2016. In 2019, we signed a protocol with the Firat Development Agency (FKA) to continue the project and received support from the Eastern Anatolia Project (DAP). While analyzing the importance of cold chains and milk collection centers in recent times, we also recognize the value of products obtained in dairy farming. Additionally, these centers have prevented animal slaughter. We estimate that the daily milk production in Malatya, both professionally and in the wild, exceeds 500 tons. We aim to maximize production in these centers. Hopefully, the necessary conditions will mature soon for the establishment of centers where producers from different regions can also process their products. These investments are crucial for both our city and the country's economy."
