In the past week, chicken meat prices have increased by an average of 15 Turkish Lira. Butchers have stated that they expect price increases during the Ramadan month as well.
The ongoing increase in white meat prices before Ramadan continues. In Istanbul, the price of chicken per kilogram has risen from 83 TL to 98 TL before Ramadan. The price of chicken wings at butcher counters increased by 30 TL, from 140 TL to 170 TL. Breast meat also rose from 145 TL to around 175 TL.
Traders emphasized that the recent price hikes have affected people's shopping habits, and they underscored that there will be further price increases in chicken meat during Ramadan.
Butcher Mustafa Karabulut highlighted that there has been an average increase of about 15 lira in white meat over the past week. He stated, "People had turned to white meat. Now, this situation is a bit challenging. There is an average increase of 5 lira every day. It's normal according to inflation rates, but people's purchasing power is low. People consume more white meat. Last week, chicken meat was 83 lira, and now it's being sold at 98 lira. Other products have also seen price increases, with wings going from 140 lira to 170 lira and breast meat from 145 lira to around 175 lira. People are now buying 1 kilogram instead of 1.5 kilograms. Chicken prices could increase by another 5 lira during Ramadan."
Butcher Murat Koca noted a decrease in demand for red meat and an increase in demand for chicken meat, stating, "Customers have turned to chicken meat because it's more affordable. However, chicken meat prices have also increased, affecting our business. Today, there has been a 5 lira price increase for chicken meat before Ramadan. There has also been an increase of up to 10 lira for red meat. Red meat sees price increases for 2 days a week for sure. There has been an increase in chicken meat prices this week as well.
