In Aydın, one of Turkey's important olive production centers, this year's olive harvest season ended early due to a 'poor yield' in olives, leading olive oil factories to close the season prematurely.
In previous years, olive oil pressing operations, which usually start in October and continue until May, lasted only 2 months in Aydın this year. With the harvest ending early due to the 'poor yield' in olives, the pressing machines in olive oil factories shut down earlier than expected. While Aydın, Turkey's largest olive oil producer, typically produces between 70,000 to 90,000 tons of olive oil annually, olive oil factories experienced only a 2-month period of intensity this year.
Ihsan Çulhaoğlu, one of the olive oil factory workers, mentioned the early closure of the season this year, saying, 'With it being a poor yield year, the olive harvest season ended early. Due to the low yield, there wasn't the expected intensity in the pressing process. Therefore, we closed the season early. The season ended early, but thankfully our oils are good. While olives were scarce, the acidity level was very good.'
